The scene is set, Nectar Lounge is the backdrop, SensaMotion and Irie Lights warm the crowd and then it happens. New Kingston hits you with Kingston Fyah!
New Kingston, for those that don’t know, is a reggae band formed out of Brooklyn, NY in 2006. Brothers Tahir (keys), Courtney Jr. (Drums) and Stephen (guitar) make up the core of the band with father Courtney Sr. on bass.New Kingston wraps up a four week tour with their final show in Seattle. Since dropping their first album “In Da Streets” in 2010 they’ve released two more full length albums “Kingston University” in 2013 and most recently “Kingston City” under Easy Star Records in 2015.
Their latest offering, an EP “Kingston Fyah” was released this past July. The hard hitting, roots heavy EP has a modern roots sound with a vintage throwback vibe that you can only get from a classic skank and key bubble along with amazing vocals. With Kingston Fyah they truly bring the heat!
Touring with New Kingston, SensaMotion out of Atlantic City, NJ drops a roots heavy set. With a two piece horn section the vibe was full and as fluid as their sound as they slid effortlessly between roots, rock and dub.
SensaMotion, having a pretty impressive resume of their own, it’s surprising this is their first time on the west coast, although you’ll be happy to know they plan to come back sometime next year. Until then you’ll have to grab a copy of their latest album “Over The Mountain” available on iTunes.
